Can I dye a blue acrylic blanket by using red dye?

I am buying a 100% acrylic baby blanket for my daughter. It's a blanket that has been discontinued so finding the right color has been difficult. I finally found a blue one and I want to dye it a light purple color. Can I just use a small amount of red dye? Or would using a color remover then purple dye be the best route...?|||First you would need a special kind of dye because the ones we can buy in the craft store won't work on acrylic. If there's a silky binding, there isn't any dye that will color it.
